Here the emperor's court resided in (summer) 694/95 (reign of Khri 'Dus srong) and in summer 713/14 and 714/715 (reign of Khri Lde gtsug brtsan); Dotson 2009. Later sources chronicle that much earlier Srong btsan Sgam po and his entourage settled here, and at the Rdo'i lha khang, the later Btsun mo tshal, Minister Thon mi Sambhota is said to have offered the first written specimen to Emperor Srong btsan Sgam po. (A copy of this "yig phud stone" is kept in the "Garden of the Queen" (Btsun mo tshal) monastery situated at the entrance to the valley (Sørensen and Hazod 2005: 234ff.)
